* * * Iranian professional volleyball team Sarmayeh Bank has conceded a bitter defeat against China in its opening match at the second round of the 2016 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in the Philippines.
On Tuesday, the Iranian outfit slumped to China’s Ba'yi Shenzhen squad in straight sets, with the scores of 18-25, 19-25 and 14-25, at the end of a Pool F match at the Alonte Sports Arena in the city of Binan, south of the capital Manila.
Sarmayeh Bank’s coach Majda Leban Cicic fielded Shabnam Alikhani, Zaynab Giveh, Shokoufeh Safari, Maedeh Borhani, Mahsa Kadkhoda, Negar Kiani and Farnoush Sheikhi in the initial line-up.
The Chinese sportswomen started the match in a more determined manner and were better in service, reception and attacks. They maintained the lead to surge ahead, before the Persians came from behind, and racked up several points to narrow the deficit.
Even though Iranian volleyball players demonstrated a rather convincing performance throughout the first set, their Chinese counterparts made use of their heights to spike well and claim the set by 25 points to 18.
After the break, both teams were tailing each other point by point for the first few minutes of the second set.
The Iranian team well managed to gain a 6-3 lead, before Chinese athletes brought the game under control and accumulated points to level the score at 9-9.
Chinese volleyball players then took advantage of the individual mistakes made by the Iranians to score, and sealed a 25-19 victory.
Ba'yi Shenzhen players continued to present good serves and attacks after the interval, and went on earning points. They eventually won the third set 25-14.
Sarmayeh Bank women’s volleyball team is scheduled to face T. Grand of Chinese Taipei on Wednesday.
