TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's beach soccer goalkeeper Peyman Hosseini was awarded with the 'Adidas Golden Glove' due to his astonishing performance at FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Bahamas 2017, where the Iranian team, affectionately known as Team Melli, finished third to make history for the country and Asia.
The top prize was awarded in a ceremony after the final match between Tahiti and Brazil at National Beach Soccer Arena at Malcolm Park, where the Brazilians crowned as the champion, extending their all-time record to five FIFA Beach Soccer titles and 35 consecutive wins in all competitions after a dominant 6-0 victory over Tahiti in the final.
Iranians' captain in the tournament, Mohammad Ahmadzadeh, was also awarded with the 'Adidas Golden Ball', which is traditionally given to a FIFA-organized tournament's best player.
FIFA's official website in a report praised the performance of Iran's goalie, commenting that Hosseini has had a stand-out tournament. Having scored the first goal of Bahamas 2017 with a long-range volley, the report added, the Iranian goalkeeper has been a crucial part of Iran's success on the goalkeeping front too.
During their play-off for third place against Italy, he made a stunning, off-balance diving foot save early in the match that got the crowd out of their seats.
"Our football federation has supported beach soccer very much," Hosseini said post-match. "We have planned for the tournament and with the good support from our federation, we became the best team in Asia."
Iran finished in third place after beating Italy 5-3, which represented the best finish for the country in any World Cup competition and the best finish for Asia in the competition's history.
