Bern, June 11 (Prensa Latina) FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed today his optimism about the resolution of the conflict in the Persian Gulf and indicated that Qatar-2022 World Cup is not in danger for the moment.
In statements to Le Matin Dimanche Swiss newspaper, Infantino stated that 'We are facing a diplomatic crisis right now; but I am convinced and optimistic that the present situation in the region will improve again. '
He clarified, however, that 'FIFA's main mission is football and not getting involved in geopolitical issues,' even though he went further and said that whether FIFA 'can make a contribution to help in any way, we will obviously offer our help '.
Several nations in the Arab region - including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates - broke diplomatic relations with Qatar last month after saying that this latter has been supporting terrorist groups.
Immediately after the announcement, many FIFA affiliates demanded to withdraw the 2022 World Cup to Qatar, and even threatened to boycott such a tournament if it is held on Qatar.
