---A Plane Story---
Old timer: A Venezuelan Boeing 747-300 (former Mahan Air) landed in Córdoba

On Monday morning, June 6, a Boeing 747-300M ex-Mahan Air landed in Cordoba after ending up diverted from its original destination, Ezeiza airport in Buenos Aires.

The aircraft arrived this noon at Taravella airport, in what was the first operation of a Boeing 747 since 2015. The aircraft took off at 14:35 to complete the original trip to Ezeiza.
The 747-300M, currently carrying registration YV3531 is 36 years old and was delivered to UTA -Union de Transports Aériens- in January 1986, where it operated until the company’s closure in 1992, when it joined Air France.
At Air France, where it operated with the registration F-GETA, it was withdrawn from service in 2006 and sold to Mahan Air in 2007 and incorporated with the registration EP-MND. It was transferred to EMTRASUR Cargo earlier this year and christened « Luisa Caceres de Arismendi » .
EMTRASUR Cargo is a subsidiary of Conviasa created in November 2021, and its objective is the planning, administration and control of air cargo and mail operations and activities at national and international level.

More crew of grounded plane prevented from leaving Argentina
Buenos Aires (AFP) – The Venezuelan crew of a cargo plane grounded outside Buenos Aires since last week may not leave Argentina, a judge ruled Tuesday after their hotel was raided in a probe into possible Iran terror links.
Police searched the 14 Venezuelan and five Iranian crew members' rooms the day after officials raised suspicions of a link to Iran's Revolutionary Guards, which is listed as a terror group by the United States.
The Iranian crew had already had their passports temporarily seized, and on Tuesday the Venezuelans had their freedom curtailed after police seized cellphones, computers and documents in the seven-hour hotel raid.
A Venezuelan Boeing 747 cargo plane reportedly carrying car parts came in from Mexico to land in Cordoba, Argentina on Monday last week, then tried to travel to neighboring Uruguay, but was denied entry and returned to Ezeiza outside Buenos Aires where it has been grounded since last Wednesday.
The plane belongs to Emtrasur, a subsidiary of Venezuela's Conviasa, which is under US sanctions.
Police did not comment on the reason for the hotel search, but on Monday, Security Minister Anibal Fernandez said information had been received from "foreign organizations" that some among the crew may be linked to companies with ties to the Revolutionary Guards, Iran's ideological army.
Fernandez said a smaller crew had been reported on the flight log than the number actually on the plane.
Also Tuesday, Paraguay said two officials who had authorized the landing of the plane there in May had been dismissed and two anti-drug agents were under investigation.
Interior Minister Federico Gonzalez said the plane landed in Paraguay on a "commercial" entry permit with 18 crew -- a number that raised suspicion.
It spent nearly three days at the Guarani international airport near the borders with Argentina and Brazil before departing on May 16 for the Caribbean island of Aruba with a load of Paraguayan cigarettes.
After it left, "we received a communication that the aircraft is sanctioned by the United States Treasury Department and that seven of the crew members are members of the Al Quds forces (of the Guards) and that the United States has them on a list of terrorists," said the minister.
Paraguay alerted the intelligence services of other countries in the region.
Iran said Monday that Argentina's move was part of a "propaganda" campaign against Tehran amid tensions with Western countries over negotiations to revive a 2015 nuclear deal.
The grounding of the cargo plane came days before Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro visited Tehran on Saturday for the allies, both subject to US sanctions, to sign a 20-year cooperation pact.
Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said the plane was sold by Iran's Mahan Air to a Venezuelan company last year.
Mahan Air is accused by the United States of links with the Revolutionary Guards.
Interpol has arrest warrants out for former Iranian leaders suspected of involvement in an attack on a Jewish center in Buenos Aires in 1994 that killed 85 people and injured hundreds.
Aircraft Hijacking:
Saying that it has been a year since the sale of this aircraft to a Venezuelan company, the source stressed that the seizure of this aircraft under the name of Mahan Airlines has political purposes.
The crews also have nothing to do with Mahan Airlines, he added.
News sources earlier on Sunday reported that the Argentinian government has seized a Venezuelan airplane belonging to Iran's Mahan Air.
The crews of the cargo plane are currently in Argentina and have not been able to return to Venezuela due to the confiscation of their passports, according to the reports.
News sources reported that the plane was carrying auto parts for an automobile company and no suspicious cargo was found in it during several stages of inspection.
The Convention on Offences and Certain Other Acts Committed on Board Aircraft, known as the Tokyo Convention, is an international treaty which entered force on December 4, 1969. As of 2015, it has been ratified by 186 parties. Article 11 of the Tokyo Convention states the following:
1. When a person on board has unlawfully committed by force or threat thereof an act of interference, seizure, or other wrongful exercise of control of an aircraft in flight or when such an act is about to be committed, Contracting States shall take all appropriate measures to restore control of the aircraft to its lawful commander or to preserve his control of the aircraft. 2. In the cases contemplated in the preceding paragraph, the Contracting State in which the aircraft lands shall permit its passengers and crew to continue their journey as soon as practicable, and shall return the aircraft and its cargo to the persons lawfully entitled to possession.
The signatories agree that if there is unlawful takeover of an aircraft, or a threat of it on their territory, then they will take all necessary measures to regain or keep control over an aircraft. The captain can also disembark a suspected person on the territory of any country, where the aircraft lands, and that country must agree to it, as stated in Articles 8 and 12 of the convention.
