Susangerd Definition

Susangerd is a city in the Central District of Dasht-e Azadegan County, Khuzestan Province, Iran. Susangerd is located at a distance of 55 km to Ahvaz and 28 km to Bostan. The Carrhae River traverses north of the city and a branch of the river passes from the middle of Susangerd.Susangerd came under Iraqi occupation during the Iran-Iran War but the city marked the bloodiest episodes of Iranian resistance against invasion. Susangerd (Persian: سوسنگرد‎, Arabic:الخفاجية, also Romanized as Sūsangerd, Sūsangird, and Sūsangurd; also known as Dasht-e Āzādegān, Dashte’ Mishan, Dasht-i-Mishān,) is a city in the Central District of Dasht-e Azadegan County, Khuzestan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 43,591, in 7,636 families.
