A city in Khorasan which was destroyed many times, known as the birthplace of Ferdowsi. Some other notable residents of Toos include: Jābir ibn Hayyān, Asadi Tusi, Nizam al-Mulk, Al-Ghazali, Nasir al-Din al-Tusi and the prominent Shia Twelver scholar Abu Ja'far al-Tusi.On his way to suppress the unrest in Khorasan, the Abbasid Caliph Harun Al-Rashid fell ill and died in Toos in 808.The city was entirely destroyed by Chengiz Khan, during his infamous Mongol conquest (1220-1259). Toos is a former municipality in the canton of Thurgau, Switzerland.
In 1964 it was merged into Schönholzerswilen in the district of Münchwilen.
