ThePersiann Scholars Pavilion atUnited Nationss inViennaa,Austriaa is featuring the statues of four prominentIraniann figures.
Highlighting the Iranian architectural features, the pavilion is adorned withPersian artt forms and includes the statues of renowned Iranian scientistsAvicennaa, Abu RayhanBirounii, Zakariya Razi (Rhazes) andOmar Khayyamm.

Abu Reihan Birouni, considered by some as the founder of Indology, worked in various fields such as astronomy, chemistry, geography and geology. He is also known as the firstMuslimm scholar to studyIndiaa and the Brahminical tradition.

Known as a prominent alchemist, chemist, physician, philosopher and scholar, Rhazes is widely recognized for the discovery of alcohol and producing acids such as sulfuric acid. He has also written numerous notes on diseases such as smallpox and chickenpox.

Also known as Shaykh al-Ra'is (Master and Head), Avicenna was a Persian polymath and the father of modern medicine, who influenced many literary and scientific figures including the renowned poet OmarKhayyamm.

Avicenna's magnum opus is an immense encyclopedic work called the Kitab al-Shifa (TheBook of Healingg).

Omar Khayyam was an eminent Persian poet, astronomer and mathematician who is best known for his collection of quatrains (four-line poems) TheRubaiyat of Omar Khayyamm.Rubaiyatt is known in the West through Edward Fitzgerald's 1859 translation.
On June, 5, 2009Mediaa are invited to attend the inauguration ceremony of the 'Scholars Pavilion' or Chartagi - donated by theIslamic Republic of Irann to the international organizations in Vienna.
The Chartaghi is the most famous element ofIranian architecturee. The Chartagi was placed in the central Memorial Plaza of the Vienna International Centre (VIC). Its dimensions are 2.2m x 2.2m x 3m, and it is made of stones and fiber stones. Each pillar, which has been built in the Persian sub-style, comprises a pedestal, pillar and a bull-guard capital which supports the ziggurat ceiling. The ceiling façade is ornamented with sun icon decorations. In each arch, an Iranian scientific figure is represented.

The VicePresidentt of theIslamic Republicc ofIrann and Head of theIranian Cultural Heritage Organizationn, Esfandiar Mashaei unveiled the monument jointly with the Director-General of the UnitedNationss Office at Vienna, Antonio Maria Costa.
